Sutherland Association Girls Premier League: Proctor Cup Champions 2014

SSFA WPL U13’s – Champions Proctor Cup 2014

The Sutherland WPL 13 girls took home the first of what the Sutherland association hopes will be many trophies this year with a comfortable 2-0 win against Capital Football, in the final of the Proctor Cup held in Bathurst over the weekend.

Unfortunately for the organisers and players heavy rain Friday and Saturday saw all games over the weekend played on very heavy grounds but that didn’t stop the girls from scoring a staggering 28 goals and only conceding one in a total of 6 matches.

The girls finished day one of the tournament with resounding victories against Apia and Inter-Lions 9-0 and 7-0 respectively and were quietly confident going into Sunday. An early night after celebrating Ashlee’s birthday and the girls were back at the fields for an early morning match against Capital (ACT institute). A solid 4-0 victory against tournament favourites was followed by another comfortable 4-0 win against fellow PL2 team Gladesville Ravens.

The semi-final saw the girls defeat PL1 side Macarthur Rams 2-1 in what was probably their hardest match of the weekend. Muddy conditions made fluent football difficult however stoic defence and some terrific teamwork saw the girls head into the final full of confidence.

The final was played late Sunday afternoon and although having already played three matches prior the girls still seemed full of running as they dominated possession and created numerous chances.

A half time lead of 1-0 thanks to a very clever short corner was doubled with the girls’ 28th goal of the tournament early in the second half and the defence proved rock solid once again refusing to allow the opposition any scoring opportunities.

The girls played some awesome football over the weekend and are definitely looking forward to a big season beginning with a Round 1 home game on Sunday March 30th against Central Coast Academy at Harrie Dening Centre, Bates Drive, Kareela.

SSFA WPL U15’s – Proctor Cup 2014

With teams from across NSW, which included Metro, Southern, ACT, Western and Riverina areas, the U/15’s headed up to Bathurst for the 2014 Proctor Cup. For a weekend of good football and team bonding.

Our pool results were:

Vs Bathurst                          6-0

Vs Gladesville                     4-0

Vs Albury                               2-1

This meant we finished first in our pool, undefeated and progressed to the quarter-final game against Southern.

It was a fiercely contested match with Sutherland having most of the chances and eventually going through as quite comfortable 1-0 winners.

In the semi-final, we came up against a very strong Macarthur Rams, who we knew would be tough opposition (and who had knocked us out at the same sta

ge last year!).  Our girls were ‘fired up’ for the challenge.  After a disastrous start going 2 goals down in the first 7 minutes Sutherland took the game to Rams with some excellent overall team play. We dominated possession and missed several good chances (including a missed penalty) but just couldn’t break through a resolute Macarthur defence going down 2-0 in the end. A pleasing, resolute performance, made to look even better after seeing the Macarthur team going on to win the Final 6-0.

Our players, even though disappointed at the time, should be very proud of their efforts this weekend.  To make the semis and fall just short of the final is a real cre

Great job U15’s– Nic, Lexi, Em, Di, ET, Laz, Jamesy, Van, Yeatesy, Ally, DA, Bridge, G, Karra, and Rosh.dit to the guts, determination and great team play that was showed. To Steve Brown and Troy Spink, thank you for the great way you coached the girls this weekend.  We are all looking forward to a good season ahead.  Overall we played five games, won four, lost one, scored 13 goals and conceded 3.

SSFA WPL U17’s – Proctor Cup 2014

Our U17 girls recently competed in the 2014 pre season Proctor Cup Tournament in Bathurst.

The girls played some outstanding football. They went through there group stage unbeaten.

Then wining a tight game in the quarter final and were unlucky in the Semi Finals to go down 1 nil.

The girls only conceded 2 goals in the tournament, and created a lot more chances then there opponents.

The team has bonded well and they have set themselves up for a good WPL season, starting in a few weeks.

A fantastic effort from all of the girls at the tournament.
