Last weekend, March 7/8 the SSFA sent a 12 girls squad made up of Academy players to participate in the Proctor Park Challenge at Bathurst. The girls had a great weekend and represented our area with distinction & played some good football along the way.
This was a terrific learning experience for all involved & a great way to start the season off.
It was a very hot weekend & fortunately for the girls our 1st game was a 3pm kick-off Saturday afternoon. We played South West Slopes FC & the 0-0 score line didn’t reflect the game with the girls enjoying 80% of possession but couldn’t transfer it into goals (not even from the spot).
Our 2nd game was against Northbridge 2 which we lost 0-4 but once again the score didn’t reflect the game. The sides were fairly evenly matched across the park but the finishing ability of the bigger, stronger Northbridge girls was the difference.
Sunday we played Bathurst District FA which we won 2-1 but once again our finishing was letting us down (at least we’d stopped hitting the Keeper).
That win earned the girls a spot in the Semi Final against Griffith FA which we went down 0-2 in a very tough encounter. Unfortunately we were outplayed by a bigger, stronger team but the girls gave a good account of themselves with our Goalkeeper in particular keeping us in the game all the way.
We were all very proud of the effort that Aimee (GK), Georgia, Georgia, Jess, Jess, Lucy, Liv, Indi, Jade, Zoe, Kiani, Jini & Tam put in.
It was an enjoyable weekend & a valuable learning experience for all involved
