2016 Football Season Launch – Sylvania BMW AL1 showcase

SSFA General Manager March 14, 2016 Football News Comments Off on 2016 Football Season Launch – Sylvania BMW AL1 showcase

The Sutherland Shire Football Association (SSFA) will launch the 2016 football season Sunday 20th March by headlining the first round of the Sylvania BMW Amateur League 1 (AL 1) competition.

The day will feature four high quality games at Seymour Shaw Stadium as the best club teams in the Shire will compete for honours in arguably the most competitive grassroots football league in Australia.

SSFA President Wayne Schweickle stated: “We are the largest grassroots sporting association of any code in Australia with nearly 19,000 registered players and over 1550 teams.  We should remember that, besides the four vital components that come together each weekend to make up the game of football – players, parents, coaches and referees – we also have a large army of volunteers working behind the scenes to ensure that “game day” becomes a reality.  To each one of you, I say thank you! ”

Following the success of our Matildas in qualifying for the Rio 2016 Olympics, and of 2 local juniors in Alex Gersbach (Miranda Magpies) & Chris Ikonomidis (Cronulla RSL /Lilli Pilli) being selected in our current Socceroos squad, our grassroots football is a great and accessible spectacle for football followers throughout the Shire.
