AYL Under 14s. Round 7 v Gladesville – Hornsby. SSFA Win 6 – 4
Our usual slow start was on display again, as the long drive to Valentine must have had an effect. Within 5 minutes 2 mistakes at the back had us 2 nil down. A quick change in set up at the back and we were improving as the boys found their groove and began to pass the ball to feet and use the width.
Gladesville were running with confidence and were playing a smart passing game, running our boys around, but we were hanging in.
A 13th minute goal from Ryan and another in the 19th minute from Daniel had us square and the confident game of Gladesville was disappearing. Another from Daniel in the 20th and then from Ryan on half time, saw us go in a 4-2 up, a vast change on the first 5 minutes.
The coaches pleaded for more effort, and for the boys to compete in the 2nd half.
Daniel got us to 5 -2 within 2 minutes of the start. This sparked Gladesville into action, as our boys relaxed. Gladesville used their big fast players down the width of the park, and soon they were back to 5 – 3. Kyle put the score out of reach with 14 to go but Gladesville got 1 more in the dying second, final score 6 – 4.
The boys need to produce the passing game, and competing nature for the full 60 minutes, and not lose focus when we get ahead.
Sutherland Shire AYL U15 v Gladesville Hornsby. Score: 3-1 win
Scorers: Alex (2), Sam
It was positive to see the boys have some shots from outside the box that resulted in goals but it was disappointing to see drop off in intensity in second half. The usual slow start by Sutho for first 10 mins meant we didn’t create many chances. Eventually a good run by Chris with a through ball to Ethan & goal to Alex. Whilst Tim & Ethan made some good runs down flanks our poor ball control kept Gladesville in the game. A wonder strike from Sam from outside of the box made it 2-0. We had majority of possession for last 20 mins & had some good opportunities. Just before Half time a shot from outside of the box by Alex made 3-0.
A very subdued & dull second half with boys relaxing way too much & eventually letting Gladesville get a goal back. We played down to the opposition letting our structure / passing go & will need to improve on this second half performance against some of the stronger teams
