Lilli Pilli AL6

The 2011 season began positively for the AL6′s. With the core of the team remaining from last year’s AL5 side, a few new faces were introduced to strengthen vital positions including Goalkeeper and striker.

The new mix proved to be successful from the beginning, with positive pre-season results and an 11-0 rout in round 1 at home. The Berries remained unbeaten until mid-season and went on to suffer only 2 defeats all year.

All the boys got on well, and became famous for their post-match ritual of sharing some refreshments at the BerryDome, where the nickname “Beeries” was formed.

Coach George Hall did a great job in promoting positive, attacking football and helped guide the AL6′s to the top of the table where they remained to take out the Minor Premiership.

The traditional rivalry with Menai was intensified in 2011 with both clubs jockeying for 1st position all year. Both regular season match-ups were close affairs with Lilli Pilli taking the points on both occasions. The side’s met once again in the major semi-final and put on a great show, Lilli Pilli once again prevailing by a single goal and earning the week off.

When Menai beat Miranda in the Grand Final qualifier, the stage was set for a fitting finale at Jannali.

The teams shared a healthy rivalry and respect for one-another, and a huge crowd gathered to see them battle it out for one of football’s most prestigeous honours, the AL6 Premiership.

In a tight arm-wrestle, Lilli Pilli were wasteful in front of goal and conceeded a spectacular goal from the in-form Menai striker and were not able to draw level, despite several chances.

In a heart-breaking loss, the Beeries had been defeated for just the second time all year in the game that matters most.

The boys reflected an a great year, thoroughly enjoyed by all both on and off the field, and can now look forward to making a huge impact in the 2012 AL5 premiership.

We would like to thank our loyal fans, the Berry Army, our amazing club, Lilli Pilli FC, the Association and all officials that helped make 2011 a special season where the juggernaut of the Beeries was born.
