St Patricks 14C Premiers
St Pats 14C had a remarkable year to win the Premiership after making it into the final four by just one competition point and then going through every must win game to eventually be the last team standing.
The win was very deserving as the team potentially could have disbanded before the start of the 2010 season after initially only having 7 players register. In true St Pats Family Club spirit a couple of others re-signed to play football after also signing up for some of the other codes so this helped to keep the team together but did require them to borrow players from the Under 12s for many rounds of the season. Despite this the team made it to the Semi’s as well last season laying the platform for a strong showing this year.
The 2011 team was a mix of core players, 9 of which had played for St Pats FC for 5 years or more and the balance comprising of those which mostly joined at the beginning of the season. The boys gelled well under the guidance of Coach Andy Crane and all could feel the momentum building as finals footy approached.
The boys did not disappoint putting in solid performances to defeat Menai in the Semi, Gymea in the Finals and the previously undefeated Barden Ridge1 in the Grand Final. Credit also to Barden Ridge who did not give up all match and threatened to score the equalizer and potential match winning goal many times but the St Pats defence held firm.
The boys are already looking forward to Season 2012. Bring it on!!!
