WPL 12 Sharks vs Central Coast Mariners 1/7/12

Well what can I say about last weekend’s game against Central Coast, Jess G scores a hat trick but only one was awarded, you were unlucky and you deserved the three points but life goes on and we have a very important game this week.

As for most weeks Sutherland looked confident and in control from the start with some enterprising passing from all parts of the field. Our defence lead by Emily were winning all challenges and were getting the ball wide and supporting our supporting midfield of DA, Georgia and Mel were combining well with some great exchanges. On numerous occasions Kristen was able to beat the Central Coast defence with some good runs down the right and putting over some good crosses which Sutherland couldn’t convert. The first dissallowed goal came from a corner with a goal mouth scramble Jess G managed to lob a ball over the goal line with both teams stopping the referee called play on. Just before halftime Central Coast came close on a couple of occasions with Courtney pulling of some good reflex saves and Ashlee blocking a shot that was on target.

Sutherland came out in the second half knowing that they had to start converting the chances into goals and with Lauren holding the ball up well, the likes of Sian and Kristen were getting in behind the Central coast defence with some good runs. With Sutherland’s dominance it wasn’t long before Jess G got her name on the the score sheet. Another corner from DA resulted in Jess getting a foot to the ball with this time the ref awarding the goal. 1-0. Unfortunately for Sutherland, Central Coast scored against the run of play also through a goal mouth scramble to make it 1-1. With 10 mins remaining another bit of controversy happened  with Jess G scoring again with the referee playing an advantage and then overrulling it and disallowing the goal. The final few minutes saw Sutherland pressure the Central Coast goal for the winner but it wasn’t meant to be and the score ended up 1-1.

Credit to you girls you showed good sportsmanship while disappointed with the result, these things happen and good teams get over it quickly so lets be ready for a very hard game against NWS Koalas.
