The 2019 season is upon us and football in Sutherland Shire continues to have the largest grassroots participation base of any sport in the country.
Registrations in 2018 saw the SSFA Football community at 18,700+ players (plus coaches, managers and club volunteers), across 1,547 teams as our 26 Clubs continue to offer players from 6 to 60, men and women, of all skills and talent a great platform to ensure football is at the heart of their winter weekends.
2019 sees a couple of changes to the landscape that we wanted to let you know about so the registration process is smooth and the 2019 season is enjoyable.
New FFA Registration system
FFA have introduced a new player (and coach/ manager) registration system across the entire country for 2019 – PlayFootball. FFA believe that the new system has been designed to improve the players registration experience, especially for those with multiple players in their family.
You will find a step by step guide to the new registration system attached (or refer the following URL – http://shirefootball.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Playfootball-Self-Registration-help-SSFA-2019.pdf).
Some key points are:
• Everyone must create a new account in the Play Football system for 2019
• For families; create an account for a parent first and then link all children
• All photos must be replaced in 2019. You MUST have a head shot ready when you register
The website link to register is www.playfootball.com.au
Important Dates for the 2019 season are as follows:
Saturday 23 February. SSFA Grading of all teams.
Friday 8 March. Last day to be registered in PlayFootball to play Round 1.
Saturday 23/ Sunday 24 March. Round 1 of the season.
Friday 31 May. Close of Registrations for 2019.
Saturday 3/ Sunday 4 August. Semi Finals weekend.
Saturday 24/ Sunday 25 August. Spare Day for Finals Series.
Note that competition dates are subject to change, dependent upon unforeseeable circumstances (e.g. the weather). An up to date version of important dates can be found on the SSFA website as follows: Program 2019 and Competition Dates 2019.
Active Kids Rebate
The NSW Government Active Kids Rebate returns for 2019 with all NSW children who attend school able to receive a $100 discount off the cost of playing organized weekend sport.
In 2018, football families received $16.7 million as 167,000 players took advantage of the scheme. Football account for more than three times the number of recipients than the next sport, which was netball.
First step is to go to the Service NSW website (https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/active-kids) and redeem a voucher.
The Active Kids rebate is then part of the registration process (at the payment stage) so please take advantage of this tremendous program.
Sin bin for dissent towards referees
After a successful trial last year in the SSFA’s Sunday competitions, the SSFA will again institute a sin bin for any player who is issued a yellow card for dissent towards a referee. This will again be in play across every Sunday competition and is likely to be extended to Saturday competitions (your club will keep you updated).
Women’s Over 40 football
The SSFA is presently transitioning toward an Over 40 Women’s competition, which has been designed to give ladies over the age of 40 a better opportunity to play in a team and division that suits their abilities and stage of life.
In 2018 a new competition (the Over 36 Women’s) was created to ensure more women continue to play the game longer – and enjoy the experience. In 2019, the SSFA will be running an Over 37 Women’s competition (that is players must have attained the age of 37 or older by 31st December 2018 to participate).
We hope you enjoy the 2019 season
