Sutherland Shire Football Association is pleased to nominate a person who has given of his time and expertise to Shire football over most of his life. Keith has been a part of Sutherland Association for the last 56 years from when he first put on a football boot as a toddler in 1961 for the Engadine Eagles Football Club. Keith then moved onto St Patricks Football Club before settling with Cronulla RSL Football club and has remained a playing member of that club since and is still competing in the Over 45 competition.
Keith has for the last 45 years been active with the Cronulla club in many roles including as a player, coach, financial ‘go to’ man, sponsorship coordinator, and on the Committee. He has been the Cronulla RSL Youth Club treasurer for 25 years, the Football club Treasurer for 18 years in total, he has also served as the club President (for 6 years) and the club’s Registrar (for 3 years). Keith has always been generous with his time. His efforts over the years have resulted in Keith earning a number of prestigious local awards.
Keith received a Sutherland Shire Football Association Merit Ward in 1985, the highest award available in the Association. In 1995 he was made a Life Member of the Cronulla club and in 2015 received the Cook Community Award from the Federal Treasurer Scott Morrison for his outstanding community service to the Cook Electorate. Keith even has a perpetual award now named after him; The Keith Ward Community Spirit Award which is presented each year by Cronulla RSL Football Club.
Keith is now active at the Association level. He is presently serving in the role of Vice President of the SSFA and Chair of the SSFA Appeals Committee. He has been responsible for the grading of 1200 sides as a member of the Association Grading Committee. Keith is instrumental in managing the Association business contacts and sponsorship, an area that has grown appreciably in recent years. His ability to intelligently assess all issues with the highest integrity is instrumental in assisting the SSFA Committee to finalise often difficult and contentious matters.
Keith has earned enormous respect from both the Cronulla RSL Football Club community and the wider Sutherland community for his dedication to all things football. Sutherland Shire Football Association fully supports the nomination of Keith Ward for the Football NSW State Award.
Congratulations Keith on a well deserved State Award.
