This week the fourth placed Sutherland took on the third placed NWS Koala’s in a battle to stay in contention for the finals. One word to describe the game on Sunday would be “PRESSURE” and thats what the Koala’s did and we didn’t.They continually put pressure on us and won the 50/50 battle during the first half and at most times didn’t allow Sutherland time on the ball.
The opening exchanges was dominated by the Koala’s as Sutherland struggled to get any rhythm in their passing and structure, but to the girls credit they weathered the Koala’s attack to only concede one goal in the first half. Bella, Ashlee, Lilly and Zoe were doing a good job defending there speedy forwards with Courtney solid in goals to keep the score to 1-0 at halftime.
The second half was a vast improvement with Sutherland showing more effort in there attitude to getting to the ball first and thus being able to attack more using Jess G and Kristen with their pace . The midfield lead by DA and Erin were now creating chances but our final options were probably letting us down to enable us to equalise, then again at times our ball movement looked fantastic from defence to midfield and onto the forwards. Unfortunately the Koala’s got their second on the counter attack to finish the game off in the last couple of minutes to make it 2-0 at fulltime.
