The score does not reflect the game. (6-1). After some good physical and enterprising football both sides went in at half time 0-0. Illawarra with their big guns could not break down our defence.
Our defence held strong starting from our strikers through to our midfield. Applying pressure was frustrating Illawarra as they could not get their running game to work. Our pressure was frustrating them and started to argue amongst themselves. Both sides had limited opportunities in the first half.
The instruction was simple at half time – Keep the pressure on them and don’t concede in the first 10.That seemed to work as we scored in the 57th minute against the run of play. The girls were ecstatic and lifted for the next 10.
Then the flood gates opened; Illawarra scored as we allowed the player to run with no pressure. Still in the game in the 60th; Kathryn Prior was injured and had to come off. This left us with only one experienced defender. Illawarra took advantage and come over the top of us. The final score was 6-1. Not a true reflection of the game.
Very proud of the efforts the girls put in for the first 60minutes. The experience of their A league players in the final 25 was the difference. Remember we have to play for 90 not 60. See you all at training on Tuesday.
