WPL 14. Macarthur Rams (1) vs Sutherland Sharks (0)
Round 3 saw us with another hard fought match, this time away against the Macarthur Rams. And for the second game in a row, this was certainly a game of two halves. Once again, it took us a long time to get up to full speed – and Macarthur definitely looked very sharp in the first 30 minutes. We were beaten to the challenge and our first touch and ball distribution need to improve. This ultimately cost us a goal early on in the game, and we once again found ourselves playing catch up football thereafter.
The half time talk saw the girls re-focus on the task at hand, and we came out looking like a different side however. All of a sudden, we were fighting for every ball, closing down in defence, and playing simple football – with some great one & two touch passing up & down the field. All of this lead to the creation of a few good opportunities to score – unfortunately however we weren’t able to capitalise on any of our good build up play, and the game finished 1-0 to the home side. Girls, there were many positives to come out of this game – and we should walk away knowing that we’re capable of turning this result around in the reverse fixture. But we need to get focused from the moment we arrive at the ground, and come out firing on all cylinders from the opening whistle.
Next up, we face the Illawarra Stingrays at home. If we start this game the way we finished off the last, I’m sure we’ll record our first victory of the regular season. Like we’ve said to you all before, we have the ability to come away from any game this year with maximum points, we just need to match that ability with attitude & desire. See you at training…
