Sutherland Shire FA u15 v St George. Score: 0-1 loss
The boys appeared to have listened at training & the number of long balls had dropped considerably. However, our lack of intensity, perhaps due to large number of injuries, meant that our transition through the field was still not as fluid as it should be & we didn’t get a single corner for 1st half. St George played with more intensity & individual skill, especially 1st touch passes, than us in this half meaning they could play possession football which put us on the defensive for a lot of the half. Eventually a weaving run by the St George centre forward through a number of our players put us 1 down at HT.
A better 2nd half where the boys upped the intensity getting a few corners & creating more chances to score. This upping of intensity improved our defence & restricted St George to few chances. When we looked up, playing one touch balls to the feet of men in space we did much better putting pressure on St George & retaining possession. If we can keep the passing & intensity of the 2nd half for the whole game then the results will return.
SSFA U14s v St George. Win 2-1
St George sat in 2nd place and this was to be our toughest test of the season so far. After strong performances against Southern Districts (4-2 win and 8-0 win) in the space of 3 days confidence was high.
The game was an arm wrestle with neither side conceding ground. Both teams used the flanks to advantage but the outside defence from both teams was too strong to penetrate into the 18-yard box.
Strong interchange in the Sutherland midfield was putting pressure on St George and Daniel P finished off a good move to have us up 1 nil in the 19th minute. St George didn’t lie down and within 4 minutes they levelled the score.
1 all at half time.
This was proving to be the hardest game of the season and the Sutherland boys showed great determination. They competed for the ball at every challenge and passed it strongly and crisply. We started to dominate the game and Kyle scored a great goal in the 8th minute.
The Sutherland boys dug deep and held on for a hard fought 2 – 1 win.
Goals: Daniel P, Kyle.
