The WPL’s remain on top of the Club Championship – great results girls!!!
First Grade vs Gladesville. Won 5 – 0
It was a cold afternoon at Peel Park and the conditions weren’t very favourable. By half time we realized the girls should of bought their ice skates rather than boots as the ground was a little muddy and uneven under foot which made it very slippery and hard for both teams to stay on their feet. The score could have been about 8 – 0 but luck was not on our side (it just wasn’t everybody’s day).
Gladesville are one of those teams that keep coming, no matter what the score. Our girls played well and pulled of some great teamwork. We went into half time with a 3-0 lead thanks to two goals from Dani (not sure she knew much about the second one but score sheet says it was yours) and another good goal by Jess.
Half time talk was to just keep doing what we were doing and keep the pedal down.
Second half saw us play much the same way, Jordi (finally) put one in the back of the net and Dani finished off with a hat trick. All girls played well today including our bench.
Look forward to the bye next Sunday and then a very important wet weather catch up game on Tuesday night against second place Sydney Olympic.
RES Grade. SSFA 0 Vs GLADESVILLE 0
A frustrating game against Gladesville today saw us with a 0-0 draw.
With Zoe Hart ruled out before the game with an ankle injury, the absence of rosh’s pre-game entertainment and the poor field conditions, we knew today wasn’t going to be easy.
Sutherland struggled from the beginning to keep the ball under control and hold possession, however once the girls warmed up to the field conditions, opportunities up front began to open. With strikes from the forwards and an extraordinary header from Mel, the Gladesville keeper wasn’t letting anything past her.
The midfield, backs and Steph continued to stay strong throughout the game denying Gladesville any chances up front. Sutherland continued to push forward and create some opportunities in the dying minutes of the game however it just wasn’t our day today. Welcome back to Larissa, playing her first game for the season today after being ill. (By Lauren)
WPL17’s SSFA 1 Vs Gladesville 0
After a week off due to a wash out, the girls were keen to get back on our winning ways playing Gladesville away on a very difficult pitch to play football. The girls started well with us dominating the first 20 minutes. Bridget and Christina were attacking wide and causing them trouble with some good crosses and the chances were coming, from a corner Brodie hits the post from the 18’ yard box , Bridget had a great touch to Leanna who finds Bec and shoots wide of the goal, then Bec puts through a great ball to Christina who also shoots wide. With our defence Matilda, Emily , Zoe, Tahlee and Brodie shutting down the Gladesville attack we never looked like conceding it was just waiting for Sutherland to score, but with the opposition making things difficult we started to fall into their game and not play ours. We were creating but couldn’t capitalise in front of goal and at halftime it was locked at 0-0.
The second half started exactly like the first and after only five minutes Sutherland score from Emily. We earnt a corner that Georgia puts over and the Gladesville keeper spills the ball into the path of Emily who easily puts it away to give Sutherland a well-deserved lead. From then on it became a scrappy game with us giving away lots of possession enabling Gladesville to work their way back into the game. We did come close a couple of times towards the end with Sophia pressing the Gladesville defence and Bridget coming close from a free kick that she put past the post. In the end we came away with a victory and that keeps us on top and most importantly helps in the club championship for promotion. Enjoy the weekend off and be ready to go for the double header.
WPL15’s vs Gladesville Ravens. 3-3 Draw
Round 10 saw us play our rematch against Gladesville Ravens. Prior, in Round 1 we lost 3-0 and we were hungry for redemption. We started the first half quite strong with our first goal from Holly. Our second goal was scored by pressuring the keeper and resulting in Paris scoring, and the half ending in 2-0. In the second half, Gladesville proved to be hungrier to win the challenges which resulted in two goals, making the score 2-2. With Janan slotting the ball past the keeper, she scored our third goal to put us up 3-2.
With the game drawing to a close Gladesville won a corner which resulted in them scoring the lucky equalising goal. Disappointed to have drawn the match, but our unbeaten run continues. Our final score was 3-3. (by Angelina Mastoris)
