Sutherland WPL continue to lead the Club Championship on the run home to the end of the season. Keep up the good work girls and make 2017 the year of the SSFA WPL teams!!!
First Grade. SSFA Won 3 – 1
Beautiful sunny afternoon at Harrie Denning saw us come up against Inter. Not quite sure what to expect today as Inter first grade have a new coach who we knew would have these girls playing some good football.
After our pre game Youtube entertainment we couldn’t wait to see what Jess and Morgs were going to deliver and they didn’t disappoint. There were times that their ‘freestyling’ was a stand out.
With 4 players out Brittany came into the number 7 position and didn’t disappoint. She was on the ball from the opening whistle and her continued effort netted her a brace. One in the first half and one in the second.
Our third goal was set up from some great team play with Annelotte, our number 5 making a great run to receive the ball and continue to goal. She only had the keeper to beat and yes she did it. Goal!!! Great work.
It was a good game from all players today, but especially nice to see a great big smile on the faces of our two goal scorers.
Well done to all 13 players that took the field and a big SSFA welcome to Grace who has returned back home to the club where it all began.
Big week at training and road trip next Sunday to face Southern.
Reserve Grade. SSFA 1 Vs Interlions 0
You wouldn’t be far wrong thinking that there was a game of football being played in the middle of summer as the beautiful blue sky and warm weather greeted us as we made our way on the pitch. Both teams were here to play as the ball was passed on every blade of grass.
Inter lions had a couple of chances in the first half but thanks to Steph we had a nil all score line at halftime. After some inspirational speeches from our coach and senior players we started the second half with renewed determination. Our backs held off a couple of early raids made by Inter Lions strikers. Our mid field started to take control of the game giving our forwards quality ball but we were just unable to finish. With a couple of new replacements on the field our energy levels lifted seeing the gun Leanna cut through Inter’s defence with a beautiful ball from the backs, and finished with a great goal. Final score 1 nil victory.
Thanks to our 17’s for backing up after their game and playing a big part in our win. Big week at training this week girls with the minor premiership in our sights. (By Zoe Y)
U15. SSFA Won 3 -1.
This round found us up against Inter Lions. We went into this game feeling very excited and eager to win as we drew against Inter Lions last round. We started our first half very rough, not playing our normal type of football, but were still able to find our way and take a few shots at goal. We worked well on our front third press for goal kicks. We were also awarded a free kick where Georgia stepped up only just skimming the cross bar. Half time finished 0-0.
After a bumpy first half, we were only hungrier to win and prove our first half isn’t our type of game. We started to switch the play and move through the gaps to then play in behind to our wingers. The midfields had a lot of space and started to attack very well. Not long into the first half we earned our first goal. Alex did a lovely throw in to myself which I then took a shot! We were now pumped to hit in a few more goals! We kept possession and played out really well through our mids and to our wings. We could definitely feel another goal coming as the mids took control of possession and dictated the play. Char attacked the space which then found Paris’ feet where she took a turn, got through a player and passed it bottom left. Placement over power!
As 2-0 is a very dangerous score line we needed to pop another one in to feel secure. We were able to still keep possession, we played through our backs to our mids where our next goal was coming! Dan passed it to Holly who took a great run through players and found her way to the box where she took a great shot to hit bottom right. This took our lead to 3-0.
Unfortunately, we dropped our intensity late in the second half and they took the opportunity to run around us and score a goal. We held the ball very well from now on not letting them take another shot. The final whistle blew ending the game at 3-1. We were very excited. Good job girls, you should all be extremely happy as we were Inter Lions first loss of the season! (Match Report by Mia Murarotto)
U13. SSFA 6 -1 win
This morning we played against Inter Lions for the home leg. We were eager to have a good start this week as last time we drew against them. This time we wanted to make sure we would win the match. The whistle blew for the start and immediately we put pressure on their defenders straight away. Our midfielders were in total control today and together they worked the ball really well to the forwards. We switched the ball so well with everyone getting into space through the middle. Meagan doing a step over has a crack at goal and goes straight in. 1-0 up gave us more confidence with our heads up high and we kept pressuring their defence and an own goal gave us a 2-0 lead at half time.
Geoff and Georgia encouraged us to continue the switching play and to keep up the pressure. In the 2nd half we continued to work hard and after a goal from my self, Meagan blasted 2 more brilliant goals for her hat-rick. Inter Lions sneaked in a goal and at 5-1 we thought that would be the end. But Millie dribbled from the half way line to the edge of the box and with her right foot cracked in our 6th Goal. It was a great team effort and everyone worked hard. (Tilly)
U17. SSFA 1 vs Inter Lions 1
The girls began confidently dominating both possession and field position.
Jasmine shot wide early and despite Sutho winning eight corners to nil in the first half, they were all wasted without a single shot. Inter were relying on long balls and were rewarded with a free kick which sailed over the bar and later a shot which hit the crossbar. Bridget lobbed the keeper in the 30th minute after a poor clearance but it sailed over the bar.
Half time 0-0.
The deadlock was finally broken 5 minutes into the second half. Bec began a brilliant passage of play with Christina and Bella setting up Leanna’s clinical finish. Sutho 1 Inter 0.
The lead didn’t last long however as an unmarked inter forward was allowed a free shot to score against the run of play. 1-1. Sutho continued to dominate possession but were continually frustrated by an aggressive defence that rarely strung together more than two passes.
In the 30th minute Brodie made a great run on the left side but was brought down on the edge of the box. Emily’s free kick went across the face of the goal but was missed by everyone and yet another opportunity was lost. In the end time ran out, with the girls having to settle for a frustrating draw.
