First Grade. Lost 1 – 0
Not the result we were hoping for today. The girls played well despite the score line but we just couldn’t manage to net a goal.
We may not have been in front on the scoreboard but the stats did reflect the game, we won possession, first touches and pass completion. A lapse in the 36th minute saw Nepean score a goal, which was disappointing for our girls.
With having everyone back on deck at training on Tuesday I know the girls will come out strong for a big game against Bankstown on Thursday night.
WPL17. SSFA 4 Vs Nepean 0
After a comfortable win away to Southern Branch last round the girls returned home to take on Nepean FC.
On another glorious Winter Sunday under clear blue skies Sutherland got off to a dream start with a beautiful goal in the opening minute. Great build up play down the right between Christina and Sophia saw the ball fall to the opposition’s worst nightmare, Emily just outside the box right in front of goal and plenty of time to hit that trademark long range shot, comfortably beating the keeper to her right. Apart from a half chance almost immediately after play resumed, Nepean struggled to get the ball out of the back under the weight of pressure from the home team.
Sure enough the second goal arrived on the fifteen minute mark. After the umpteenth corner from the right, Captain Georgia delivered another pinpoint ball into the danger zone where a nice diagonal run from Bridget in front of her opponent saw her control and shoot into the bottom left corner. Once again the dreaded two goal lead allowed complacency to set in with a couple of worrying moments at the back timely reminders to concentrate for the entire match.
The half time break gave Sutherland a much needed chance to reset and the third goal arrived quickly. Some clever play from Grace was followed up with a strong run into the box from rampaging left back Brodie, easily beating her opponent to the ball and taking her chance nicely with a low shot across the keeper into the bottom corner.
With goal difference important as we head into the much awaited away top of the table clash next week against fierce rivals Bankstown FC the girls kept their foot well and truly on the pedal. Sure enough a late fourth goal arrived with Sophia rewarded for her industrious play up front throughout the match.
It’s extremely encouraging to see so many different goal scorers amongst the girls. This illustrates our attacking threat all over the park and more importantly a fantastic team ethic where they all play for each other. Throw in another clean sheet from the imperious Zammit twins, Matilda & Co. at the back and we’ll drive down King Georges Road next weekend to the cauldron of Jensen Park full of confidence and belief.
FINAL SCORE. Sutherland FA 4 – Nepean FC 0

WPL 15’s. SSFA 2 v Nepean 1
Round 15 saw us up against Nepean, who have improved in their recent games so we knew it was going to be tough. After the whistle blew, Sutherland took a while to adjust, conceding an early goal to Nepean making the score 1-0. We were then quick to transition when Holly made a run down the left side and crossed it in where Mia took a touch and got it in the back of the net making the score 1-1. Both teams had many other chances but couldn’t get any in.
The second half began, and both teams desperate for the win. We started to switch the ball better and had better passing accuracy so we were starting to have heaps of chances on goal. It was a nail biting game but neither team could get a goal. It was still 1-1 until the final 5 minutes where we got a penalty from a handball. Ange stepped up to take a penalty and luckily got it in the back of the net putting Sutherland in front 2-1. We remained strong and the score finished 2-1.
Fantastic game girls, well played. We played as a team and didn’t give in even though we were 1-0 down in the beginning. Go Sutherland! (By Alex Raatz)
WPL13. SSFA vs Nepean – 3-0 Win
This morning us Sutho girls played against Nepean. Everyone played great together as a team, Nepean didn’t get to score against us in the first few minutes which was a great start. We switched the play very well and completed many great passes. In the first half Meagan scored an amazing goal, which fired up the team to keep going.
In the second half we had many great opportunities to score, two of those went in which put us in lead of 3-0. Jade scored one of the goals it was an amazing shot the other goal was scored by Giules. I’m so proud of all of you girls, it was a really good game. Brodie saved all the shots Nepean had and didn’t stop, she played amazing today. Special mentions to Bella Currey who played an outstanding game, she never gave up and gave it her best. (Georgia)
