WPL SSFA v Manly (Sun 18 March)

WPL17. Sutherland 2 – Manly 3
In extremely hot conditions we knew it was going to be a tough contest today. But after the opening whistle we got settled into our game, moving the ball around nicely, probing at the Manly defence.
After some great work in the middle of the park we won possession with Janan playing a nice combination with Kiara opening up Manly’s defence for the first goal. 1-0 Sutho!
Soon after Manly got moving with some direct play trying to get one of their attacking players behind our last line. And that tactic proved successful when their wide player got in behind and knocked in a cross for a finish far post. 1-1
Two more goals were to come before half time. The first to Sutho after some neat play in the 18 yrd box saw Jas get brought down for a penalty. Izzy stepped up and dispatched it for a 2-1 lead. But that lead didn’t last long with Manly answering back with a goal before half time. 2-2 at the break.
Second half was as tight as the first and credit to both teams who kept up the pace in very hot conditions. But in the end the difference came in the 60th minute from a set piece to Manly with a free kick hit from over 30yrds out taking a deflection for the winning goal.
An amazing effort to all the girls, so proud of you all! Keep up the hard work and a win won’t be far away!
Also a thank you to the Under 15s Girls; Alex, Georgia E and Paris who did an amazing job playing up for us today!
