WPL SSFA v NWS Koalas (Sun 8 July)

WPL 15 SSFA 3 vs NWS Koalas FC 0

After a great game against Sydney Uni on Thursday we went onto the field feeling pumped and wanting to win.
We started well, applying quality one touch and passing skills that helped us dominate the field of play. This resulted in our first goal scored by Mia. It was a great delivery from Alex over their backline, Mia ran onto the ball, got around the keeper and slotted it into the net. We were 1-0 up and knew it was important to keep our intensity going.
Our second goal came from a backline combination to our midfield that gave Georgia E space to have an awesome shot from the 18 yard box that went in the top right corner of the goals.
After half time we understood we could not drop our efforts as a 2-0 lead is a very dangerous score line.
We went in strong and so did the Koalas. They had shots but couldn’t put the ball in the net due to our awesome defensive efforts as well as Akala’s amazing saves. Keeping us ahead 2-0. But we didn’t stop there, a free kick taken by Georgia E was put over the opposition’s backline to Mia. She beat the keeper once again scoring, giving us the 3-0 win we deserved.
It was a fun to have a great win and play good football combinations. Get well soon to Hoffy and a big thank you to the 14s – Lucy, Brodie and Tilly who helped us win our game today. By Kyra Ereckson

WPL SSFA vs Sydney Uni (Thursday 5th July)
WPL 15 SSFA 0 vs Sydney Uni 0

A well anticipated washed out round 14 match saw 3rd placed Sydney University take on an incredibly determined and eager Sutherland Shire side. We were the underdogs for this game but proved our grit and determination right up to the final whistle. As the whistle was blown indicating play to get underway both teams were up for a fight (that was evident!) Sutherland held strong as a forceful Uni sent many forward but our defence was able to keep Uni at bay. Our work rate from our midfielders was very high helping keep the score at 0-0. Our front three were able to get few break away runs but had to fight very hard against a well structured and quick backline. Both teams were pretty much even. Throughout the game chances were present but goals did not want to come! As time ticked closer to the final whistle physicality became a major part of the game. Every single person on our team stepped up to the challenge and worked so hard! We were very unlucky to not get on the scoresheet as the game ended 0-0.
Thank you to the U14’s (Abbey, Tara and Lucy) for playing up with us- you always play great and Thursday was no exception!!
