Miranda Magpies Celebrate 70 years in 2022

Miranda Magpies Football Club Celebrates 70 Years

This year the Miranda Magpies Football Club are celebrating 70 years of providing football services to the local community.

Miranda has the honour of being the first Club in a newly reformed Sutherland Shire Association following a meeting in 1951 and Seymour Shaw Park was one of only two fields used before Football was decentralised in 1957.

The club has grown over the years and Club President Gary O’Riordan, said it’s an exciting time for the Miranda Magpies. “Football is stronger than ever in the Sutherland Shire, and with significant development in our local area, we’re seeing a surge of players wanting to be Magpies.

We had topped over 1,000 registered players in 2021 with booming junior players which is remarkable. We’re expecting more growth not only in our very strong women’s competition teams, but also our senior mens and juniors. With the council approved development to the Seymour Shaw precinct getting underway this year as well as plans for improved club facilities, our local community can expect a better quality football experience for everyone to enjoy. We are really looking forward to the year ahead at the Magpies and celebrating our 70th anniversary !”

Miranda Magpies had the first successful women’s team in 1977 (pictured) and have recently won 3 consecutive Senior Women A Grand Finals before the last two COVID affected years.

The Miranda Magpies Football Club field over 89 teams across age groups from Under 6’s to Open Age and have developed local talents like Mark Natta and Teigan Collister, both now playing with Western Sydney Wanderers in the A- League competitions.
