Today we travelled west to St Marys on what was a surprisingly warm day.
The familiar story of us being down on troops (we’ve had the full squad on deck for 1 game this year) was again being sounded.
So once again a big thanks to the 15’s is in order.
The game started at a frantic pace going from end to end with both sides attacking & counter attacking each other non-stop.
We created 2 very good opportunities in the 1st half with a couple of fantastic passes from the midfield catching out Nepean’s high
pressing defence but unfortunately our lack of composure & the poor condition of the pitch combined to have us miss both opportunities.
Our Keeper Steph snuffed out their best opportunity making a great 1 on 1 challenge for the ball.
0-0 at halftime & a few of us were thinking we’d read this story before – Lots of chances & no goals.
About 5 mins into the 2nd half Nepean got in behind our defence & snuck the ball past Steph.
This seemed to settle us down & we started playing some good football.
Midway through the half Nic put her foot through the ball from a distance out & it rocketed into the back of the net.
The pressure was mounting on our opponents & a mistaken free kick was cut off by Emily W who worked it onto her right & into the back of the net.
The action wasn’t finished there with Nepean mounting a few raids towards the end but Steph was coming out of her goal with conviction,
cutting down the opposition & grabbing the ball.
This was a very entertaining game played out between 2 teams that will surely be up there at the end of the season
