First Grade vs Bankstown. Won 3 – 2
What a difference a week can make. The girls came out ready for a big one today. We started well with Jordy finding the back of the net after some great lead up work. Unfortunately for us, Bankstown also managed a goal after a tackle in the box saw the ball deflect off the two boots and end up in the net. Half time 1 all.
The girls were up for the challenge in the second half. We were dominating with possession, like we did in the first half, when Nicole took a free kick that was placed well in the box to find Danielle and she was able to finish, goal Sutherland.
Our third was very similar, Nicole again put a free kick in the box to find our very reliable goal scorer Reagan on the spot to net another for us.
Bankstown scored a late goal in the 89th minute from a free kick that just snuck in under the cross bar.
Another gutsy effort today girls, it was good to watch. A special mention to Nicole and Georgia who were co-captains today and also slotted into the centre fullbacks position, great job girls. Also to Gen and Sam (Mark’s son) who helped pull down the nets down!!
Two tough oppositions to finish round 1 off but we will look forward to the challenge.
Sunday’s game started off with a slow start due to an injury caused in the previous game. This caused a delay making the halves shorten to 35 minutes each way. Before we knew, the whistle blew and off we went. Bankstown started off strong, pressuring forward for a goal however Sutherland held them off for a while. This was until Bankstown made a break through and scored a header during the first half. Sutherland were down 1-0 when the halftime whistle blew though nothing stopped the girls as they picked up and worked harder to get back into the game. In the second half, our midfielder Mel got the ball at her feet and ended up scoring a cracker of a goal bringing the score up to 1-1. From this point on both teams were eager to get the winning goal with strong attacks happening from both sides of the field. The final score finished at 1-1 with a tough performance from both Bankstown and Sutherland. (By Kristen Karavatakis )
WPL17’s. SSFA 4 vs Bankstown 0
The 7th Round match saw 1st placed Sutherland take on 4th placed Bankstown on a beautiful Sunday. Sutherland began well with some crisp passing & quick ball movement. Many opportunities were created in the 1st half with Georgia, Bella, Leanna & Emily all going very close to scoring. The wings also got into the action, Christina getting some great crosses into the box. Sutherland were also winning the battles in the air. The backs, with Zoe playing brilliantly snuffed out anything that Bankstown threw at them. By the end of the 1st half, even though Sutherland totally dominated, the scores were locked up at 0 – 0.
Sutho began the 2nd half with a great intensity after an inspiring half time team talk from Assistant coach (the first Grade captain for the day) Nic – flurry of goals, Jasmine getting a nice Brace, both from distance in the 44th & 46th minutes. By now Sutherland were everywhere & having fun. In the 53rd minute, after some good lead-up play, Bella placed a lovely shot past the Bankstown keeper (who was their Man of the Match with a string of fine saves). Bankstown were being frustrated out of the game. And just to make sure of the win in the 70th minute, Grace hit a cracker high into the back of the net, followed by a brilliant fall-over celebration.
Well done 17’s Girls. A thoroughly professional performance. Result 4 – 0 win. (Brett Roddy).
Today we played against the Bankstown City Lions. We all knew, going into the game, that it was going to be a tough and physical one. Holly was back from injury today and it was great to see her on the field again. Soon the score was 1-0 with Paris scoring the goal. Even though we were winning we didn’t let that get to our heads and kept pushing on, resulting in another goal, scored by Janan. Our first half was overall brilliant, we held majority of the possession and we had many attacking opportunities.
We came into the second half strong however Bankstown dominated, resulting in 2 goals being scored. With the score now 2-2 both teams were giving their all trying to score the winning goal. We had many attacking opportunities however had trouble getting the ball past the keeper and in the back of the net. The game ended in a draw, 2-2.
Great job girls for the fantastic effort. Thank you for the 13’s which stepped up and supported us on the bench. Also thanks to Sarah, Jayden and Summer for cheering us on from the sideline, we hope to see you on the field soon. Lastly and definitely not least thanks to our coaches for guiding us throughout the game.
WPL13 vs Bankstown 4-0 win
Scorers: Meagan, Millie (x2), Guiles
A beautiful morning and a fantastic win for our team. Despite the push and shove we managed to get through the first half with a brilliant goal from Megan. Abbey, Tilly, Nicole, Bella , Aiesha and Jade did an amazing job in the defence line, keeping the ball out of the net.
Brodie’s excellent communication played a big part in preventing Bankstown scoring. The second half saw more opportunities to score but our lack of possession and execution kept the play tight. Zoe and Georgia cheered from the sideline as Milly scored her first 2 goals of the season and Guiles scored her first. Our captain Lucy fought well in defence often dropping back and filling the holes. Consistent effort in the midfield for the birthday girl Tara and Bronte’s continuous breaks through helped bring the ball up the field.
Overall a great team effort and an excellent win at 4-0 By little Bee
