WPL First Grade. SSFA (0) vs Bankstown (0)
Due to a wet Harrie Denning, our game was transferred to Seymour Shaw. I would like to say a big thank you to all the supporters that came down to support us.
The game was a tussle with both teams playing very different games. Our first wasn’t one of our better halves but the second half seen us firing a little better. We were finding more space out there and were keeping the ball, unfortunately we just couldn’t find the back of the net.
We stuck to our style of play with our backs playing the ball out well from the back and all our mids and forwards contributed with some great passing strings.
Bankstowns keeper saved a penalty in the box and later in the half one of their players was red carded.
With 5 minutes to go we almost had the winner with Nicole having a shot which seen the Bankstown keeper get fingertips to it, to push it over the crossbar.
We will have to be content with the 1 point for now, but we are definitely looking forward to playing Bankstown again in round 11.
WPL Reserve Grade. SSFA (1) vs Bankstown (2)
Goal Scorer for SSFA : Maddison Farmer
This was our first home game. Due to wet weather the night before, unfortunately the girls could not play at Harry Dening. They played at Seymour Shaw 1 instead.
First half had Bankstown trying to score from a distance but it was Maddison Farmer who scored the first goal in the 17th minute. Once again, Maddie broke through the defence and she kicked the ball past the keeper to give SSFA the lead, 1-0. The kicks towards goal kept coming with no results for both sides.
We started the second half in a more positive way to the first and made several attempts at atta
cking. Unfortunately the girls were caught off guard and an equaliser was scored half way through the second half, 1-1. Our girls knew they had to work hard and created opportunities but these did not result in goals. A slight misunderstanding in the defence, gave a slim chance to a Bankstown attacker who managed to score ending the game 1-2 their way.
Thank you to the U17 players who also helped with our game.
Thank you to our sponsors Gymea Tradies and Jubilee Physio, especially Emily.

Goal Scorer: Ash Brydon
At our first home game for 2016 it was great to see lots of friends and families supporting and cheering on the team.
The backline were under pressure from the start with Bankstown coming at them from both wings. All our backs: Rebecca, Bailey, Emily, Tahlee, Zoe, Lauren were strong and made it difficult for Bankstown to get a good shot at goal. The few shots on goal were well saved by Enya.
Later in the first half, Sutherland stepped up a gear and was dominating play, which resulted in lots of attempts at goal. Bailey created an opportunity after an awesome cross to Ash who positioned herself to head the ball at goal, which unfortunately hit the cross, bar and she was unlucky not to score.
The girls went to half time with score 0-0
Sutherland started strong in the second half with some good passing, movement off the ball and by using the width of the field. Amelia did some excellent throw-ins and was very strong on the wing. Lauren and Bob dominated on the wing and were running the opposition around with two touch passing and good communication.
The girls soon found themselves down 1-0 after Bankstown scored. Sutherland quickly hit back after Bianca made a great run and was brought down in the box and was awarded a penalty. Ash stepped up to the mark and slotted the goal to equalise the score. Shaylee, Charlotte, Lana, Jaz all rotated in the midfield and were very determined to win the ball and get it up to the forwards.
Sutherland was then unlucky to concede another goal after a misguided pass found the feet of a Bankstown forward. The girls kept their heads high and in a thrilling finish, pushing everyone forward unfortunately ran out of time to score an equalizing goal.
The final score was Sutherland 1 Bankstown 2.
WPL U13’s. Sutherland Shire FA (2) vs Bankstown City FC (1)
Today we versed Bankstown City and won 2-1. We played using all of the skills we have developed in training. In the first half we were up 1-0 thanks to Paris’s amazing goal. In the second half Kiani also scored keeping us in the lead. We were all excited but a bit nervous because in a past game we had been 2-0 up and ended up losing 3-2 so we did not want to let in any goals and more importantly we wanted to score some more goals. In the end Bankstown City scored a goal, Aimee tried her very best to stop it, but unfortunately it was out of her reach. Great game girls! Everyone played very well today. LETS GO SUTHO!!! Goal Scorers: Melody 1 & Nicola 1
Today we played our 1st home game of the season which the side was really looking forward too.
Unfortunately recent weather meant we had to play on Field 2 but with the off-season work that’s gone into that field meant it was in very good condition.
a similar game to us in regards to liking to play forward quick & early but do tend to play some high risk passes. They also like to press really high up the pitch with their speedy attackers putting pressure on & have a physical presence.
We started a bit slow but as the game went on you could see our ball control & shifting it around quickly was taking its toll on our opponents. Our 1st chance came from Emily who made a great run stepping into the Midfield & continued it to the top of the box but the shot was deflected for a corner. Kristen Whipped in a nice flat corner at speed which Emma Ga got on the end of but couldn’t get over it to head it down.
We were playing some nice 1:2’s out wide which was helping us make good ground & get in behind the opposition. Larissa took a good free kick which resulted in a corner, this was taken short & the cross found both Mel & Bridget at the back post but neither could get anything descent on it. Our corners were looking dangerous with yet another one finding a free player but once again we headed over.
Bankstown looked to counter attack quick from there with a through ball catching our defence napping but thankfully for us Emma Gi was quickly out of her area to clear the danger. It was the warning shot that reminded us how dangerous Bankstown can be. A nice attacking raid down the left by Bridget & Larissa who beat a defender & crossed flat to Mel who side footed in the 6 yard box for our 1st goal.
Emma Ga was choking the life out of any attack they tried to play through the middle so they started to attack out wide with some success. A quick counter attack down our left side almost caught us out, but the cross was blocked by Emma Gi & Bec came in & supported her Keeper clearing the ball away from goals.
We came out a bit asleep after the break with Bankstown getting an early shot away, but it was well taken by Em in goals. The team switched back on & when Nicola made a good driving run, she pulled up to let a defender go by, she shifted the ball & struck it sending it over the Keeper & into the back of the net.
After the goal the game seemed to go from end to end with both sides guilty of turning over possession easily. Kristen made a slashing run down the left but shot wide.
They went straight back up our end & had started to resort to shooting from outside with Em called on again to make a good save. Another corner found the ground in front of their goal but no one could poke the ball into the back of the net through the mosh. A good early ball by Zoe down the right found Nat who used her skills to beat a couple of players & crossed it finding Mel & Kristen free in front of goals but the shot went wide.
Bankstown managed to get in behind our defence but their shot went wide & another shot from outside was saved by Em again. Our 3rd goal came after some nice passing by Nat & Bridget found Mel in front of goals for another tap in. Last play of the game came from a Bridget cross finding Kristen at the back post but the shot went wide.
All up a fantastic team display & one that left the coaching staff smiling & spectators entertained. Next week’s game is away to the Northern Tigers which is always a tough game in all grades – Hope to see you there.
