WPL SSFA v Illawarra Stingrays (Sun 15 July)

WPL 15 SSFA 1 vs Stingrays 0

Today’s game saw us up against the Illawarra Stingrays at Harrie Denning. After their 7-1 win last week against Macarthur Rams we knew they were going to come out hungry for another win. We didn’t let this get to our heads though after a fantastic 3-0 win we had last week. It made us even hungrier to carry on our streak.
We started strong moving the ball side to side making Stingrays work hard. With smart decisions and great executions we were able to create many opportunities up front where we were extremely unlucky in not finding the back of the net. Our defence worked tremendously hard to keep the opposition out. Stingrays only had 2 good shots on goal in the first half that Akala did a great job in saving. Leaving the score 0-0 at half time.
After a positive half time talk we took to the pitch again ready to have even more urgency and want then the first half. Again we kept Stingrays out for majority of the half and gave them very little opportunity to score. We had some amazing free kicks and corners today and were unlucky to not capitalise on them. Although towards the back hand of the half we received a corner. Mia put a beautiful ball in where EJ took a great shot but deflected off one of the girls where it found Chloe’s feet outside the 18-yard box and she took an incredible shot which curled in over the keepers head! Great goal Chloe! This left the final score 1-0 to Sutherland. Akala captained the girls to a great win today and you should all be so proud of all the effort you put in! Thank you so much to the U14s – Jaime, Bronte, Tara and Milly who played for us today. You girls all played amazing!! And also a massive good luck to Paris who is representing NSW at nationals this week. We are all so so proud of you!!
