Canberra Road Oval at Sylvania is the home ground of Gwawley Bay Georges River Junior Soccer Football Club
Georges River Junior Soccer Football Club was founded in 1960 by Mr. Jack McGowan and three teams entered the local Shire competition in 1961. Georges River home ground was then situated at Canberra Street, Sylvania.

Cronulla Seagulls Soccer Club was formed to compete in the 1959 season. Gordon Gillham thought that a
junior soccer club was possible in this area, as Cronulla was a very strong soccer area before World War II.
During this inaugural year, the Club performed very well after its humble beginnings, however it was a very hard
and trying year.
