Who We Are

We continue to be the largest sporting Association in the Southern Hemisphere with over 19,000 players to take the field in 2023.

Sutherland Shire Football Association is the largest football Association of any code in Australia, we foster and develop Football in the Sutherland Shire in its various formats at both a grassroots and representative levels.

A Word From Our President

Laura Cowell

The 2024 season at the Sutherland Shire Football Association (SSFA) will begin in earnest on Sunday 24 March when the Green Options Shire Premier League teams are drawn to play their first round – a fantastic showcase of the highest levels of community football. All other ages and grades are scheduled to kick off Round 1 on Saturday 6 / Sunday 7 April.

As the new President of the SSFA, (marking a significant milestone as I become the first female President) I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the SSFA 2024 Executive team: Russell Marsden serving as Vice President, Keith Ward as Treasurer, Executive Committee members Cherie Donoghue, Karen Traynor, Marty Manns, Mark Williams, Jim Hankins, and Chris Lockwood. This team is committed to the development of football and our community.

We’re pleased to highlight that our Executive Committee now includes 33% female representation, reflecting the gender diversity within our participants: with the SSFA leading the way with more female footballers than any other Association and more than 34% of overall players being female.

I also extend my thanks to Matt Brady for his seven years of service as President of the SSFA. His contributions to the SSFA have been invaluable and his knowledge and experience is never too far away.

I am acutely aware of the current economic pressures and the SSFA have made efforts to keep our fees as low as possible to ensure football remains accessible for everyone in our community.

We are so pleased to see an increase in our participation across the Shire with an additional 1000 players having registered across all age groups: representing an additional 100 teams participating in our competitions and mini-roos. In total the SSFA now oversees more than 20,500 players across 1639 teams.

Congratulations to the Club Executive/Volunteers on your mammoth effort in registering and grading people teams to submit to SSFA for the forming of the competitions.

We are excited about the introduction of the Sutherland Strikers, a new addition to our football family.

Looking forward to seeing you around the grounds!
