Statement from Sutherland Shire Football Association

The ongoing wet weather has presented significant challenges for football in the Sutherland Shire and beyond. Following the General Meeting of clubs last night, we have made several important decisions to address these issues:

Alternative use of Kareela Synthetics:
• Plan B: Specific grades may be selected to play if a complete round is washed out, pending further review and feedback.
• Plan J: Considering the option to play on all open fields for designated age groups and grades.
Clubs have been invited to provide thoughts on these two alternatives and other suggestions for subsequent review. Major changes will not be made in 2024 but may be considered for future years.

Saturday Washed Out Rounds:
• Vote Outcome: The spare weekend in the final’s series will now be used to extend the Saturday competitions and Miniroos seasons by one week. Finals moved to:
o Semi-Finals: 17 August
o Finals: 24 August
o Grand Finals: 31 August
• The EC will review applications from clubs to move approved Gala Days booked around the final’s series.

Mini Roos – non competition U6 – U12 (and impact of cancellations):
• Plan M: If insufficient fields are available on a Saturday, Mini Roos matches will be played at open fields only, without rescheduling.
o Clubs must ensure clear communication and organisation of teams to handle potential participation issues due to weather conditions.
• Vote Outcome: For the remainder of 2024, Mini Roos will be played at available grounds on a Saturday when full field availability is not possible.

We acknowledge the impact of the wet weather on our schedules and are committed to finding solutions that allow us to continue playing as much football as possible. Please reach out directly to your club with any questions or feedback you may have.

Sutherland Shire Football Association President
