SSFA AYL13 Bathurst Cup
The AYL13 team enjoyed a fantastic weekend at the 2023 Bathurst Cup – performing well on the field to make the quarter-finals, while bonding off the field over extremely early starts and soaring temperatures!
We made a fast start to the tournament, winning our first three games – a 2-1 victory over Belconnen United (Anton & Bobby with the goals), a 1-0 nailbiter over Southern Branch (Nathan from long range), and a comfortable 3-0 against Albury Wodonga (Ryan and Bobby with the goals).
Our final group game against the Macarthur Rams (an NPL side coached by former Soccerroo Brett Emerton) resulted in a 3-0 defeat, our tournament wrapped up in the quarter-finals with a 4-1 defeat to Gungahlin.
Most importantly, the team can be proud of how they played – in the right spirit, working hard for each other, and they never gave up even when behind.
It was great to win some games, and we learned a lot from the experience of playing some very good sides.
A big thank you to everyone who helped make the weekend such a success, especially the parents with their contributions of water/snacks/shade. We’re looking forward to the season kicking-off season.
